I just took my medicine. Why protest? A decision was made by the staff of a privately owned forum, and that&#39;s how it is. It&#39;s OK. The last thing I&#39;m going to do if I&#39;m in trouble is launch some kind of protest to the people who decided I was trouble in the first place. Seems to me that whining to them would make it even worse. I may be a rabble rouser, but I&#39;m not a crybaby. So it&#39;s OK. <br /><br />And yes, I understand about accumulating infractions. That was not the case as best I can tell. I had one infraction very early in my posting. I got another one that was reversed because there was a fluke in the language filter. When the moderator notified me of that infraction I did protest, but only because it was clearly a technical glitch and he agreed, thus the reversal. This ban is more subjective. After someone else brought it up, I discussed/commented on the notion that a secret forum exists and later I asked why someone was banned. If a moderator considers that to be &quot;calling out&quot; then I&#39;m not sure I can change their mind. <br /><br />My opinion? I think it&#39;s kinda silly. I think deleting that thread and banning people only promotes the idea that this secret trash-talk forum exists, and if it does exist that&#39;s the last thing I would want to do. But like I said, it&#39;s not my forum. I just play there. So it&#39;s OK. I&#39;m not mad. This incident will not deter me from returning to Saints Report. Reasons for deleting threads and such will be discussed, but you need to contact the staff. The staff will take a fairly hard line against what can be percieved as public undermining.<br />As far as that goes, bans aren&#39;t set in stone. If you did not intend to undermine, did you at least reply to the pm you were sent in an effort to explain yourself? Staff members have reversed these things before.<br />Also, your ban might have simply been the result of accumulating too many points in too short a time period. If you had other infractions recently then the last infraction might have put you over the top resulting in an auto ban.<br />Either way, the best way to find out why is to contact the staff, not complain to the world at large.<br />This stuff is in the TOS you know. Do you think I'm Asian? This picture has confused some people. I have also been asked if I had any Indian--as in India--heritage. I do, in fact, have Indian heritage, but the Cherokee sort instead. I'm mostly 95 percent North Alabama, Irish/Scottish hilljack. <BR/><BR/>So I'll give you that perspective. Being from the South, we get labeled racist automatically much of the time, which is irritating, but goes back to history. For a long time here, and perhaps in other parts of the country too, people applied what was called the "one drop" rule. That meant that if you had even one drop of "black" blood in you, you were black. Not pure. Have several generations of people of color growing up with that rule being applied to them by racists, and I can understand how a person of mixed race would just simply say, "I'm black." They weren't given a choice about the distinction for a long time. In the New Orleans area they used other words. For example, a "quadroon" was a person who had one quarter black parentage and an "octoroon" was a person with one eight heritage. Point is, for a very long time you simply were not allowed to call yourself "white" if you weren't 100 percent white. <BR/><BR/>Times change. Obama even called himself a "mutt" earlier this week, which made me laugh. But I do think you are right about some of this. There were a whole lot of white people who voted for Obama without regard to his bi-racial heritage, and yes, there were a whole lot of black people who voted for him specifically because of it. What can I do about it? One day maybe everyone will vote for the candidate they think is best without giving a second thought to his or her color or ancestry. That will be awesome. But right now, I'm just glad people care enough to vote. Our electorate is neither informed, for the most part, nor culturally sophisticated. <BR/><BR/>But take heart. I don't think Obama talks about his race nearly as much as the white media does. It will die down in time. And then we'll see whether or not he's a good president.D.
